Peter Gormley - Production Director

Peter joined Sperrin Metal in 1988 as a Paint Plant Supervisor and during this time studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown, where he then graduated with a HNC, HND & PGD. This ‘grass routes’ experience and educational training gave Peter an excellent insight and understanding of the daily functions of a large factory.  In this position Peter displayed excellent planning skills and this contributed to his promotion in 1990 to the position of Purchasing Manager. This role made him responsible for a budget of between £3 million and £4 million per year.   

Peter’s eagerness to continue the steady growth of the family business saw him also venture into sales.  He took on the added role of Export Sales Manager further developing pallet racking sales in the European, Middle Eastern and Asian markets.   

Peter’s drive and determination to continue company growth has been the foundation for his success in his current position of Production Director. As production director he has overall responsibility for production and purchasing. The efficiencies he has developed in these departments have been instrumental in Sperrin Metal’s ongoing success.

Patrick McAllister - Director of Sales & Company Secretary

A Chartered Accountant (ICAI) since 1991, Patrick had first qualified with Coopers & Lybrand before moving into industry as a Company Accountant. Patrick joined Sperrin Metal in 2001, assuming responsibility for all aspects of Financial Management and Human Resources. Over the years his role has expanded as he has taken a more active involvement in most areas of the business. He played a significant role in the decision to acquire Helmsman Lockers in 2008 and continues to be involved in its running.

In 2010 he took on the role of Director of sales, succeeding Paul Gormley who took control of the day-to-day running of Helmsman. One of his main goals has been to further develop the GB market and to increase the Sperrin Metal brand in GB for Pallet racking and shelving.

Paul Gormley - Director

As a trained Accountant, Paul decided to focus on building a career within the family business and joined Sperrin Metal’s Northern Ireland Sales team in 1985.  During his time within this market he played an active role in establishing Sperrin’s reputation in this area. In 1987 he was promoted to Area Sales Manager for the Republic of Ireland, forming Sperrin Metal’s Dublin office in 1988.  From 1992 to 2010, he had overall responsibility for sales and marketing in the Republic, building on Sperrin Metal’s position as market leaders of storage products in the Irish economy.

This led to Paul becoming the Sales Director and has been directly involved in some of the largest racking projects in the country. As a result of his experience in developing a business expand into new markets, he was ideally positioned to take on the responsibility of overseeing the Helmsman lockers division of Sperrin Metal. Since 2010 this has been Paul’s main focus though he still is involved in developing sales of pallet racking and shelving in the South East of England.

Mr Jimmy Trainor - Operations Manager

One of Sperrin Metal's longest serving employees, Jimmy Trainor joined the Company in 1972 as a shop floor operative and while with the Company trained as an engineer. In 1985, Jimmy was made Plant Manager, assuming responsibility for the whole maintenance function within the company. His product knowledge and ability to solve any product issue led to further promotion with Jimmy becoming Technical Manager in 1998. This was essential as the Company developed solutions to pallet racking and shelving problems that optimised customer’s storage requirements. 

Jimmy’s role has expanded further in the last few years to that of Operations Manager, the responsibilities include production as well product development. In this role Jimmy is the main person for solving storage problems for customers whether they are racking, lockers, mezzanine or shelving issues and integrating these into the production program.  

Mr Noel Stewart – Installation Manager

Noel joined Sperrin in January 2006 as Installation Manager.  He is a graduate from the University of Ulster, Jordanstown, where he obtained an HND in Mechanical Engineering. Noel has over 20 years experience in the engineering industry which has helped develop his organisational, planning, and people management skills. He also has experience in health and safety legislation which has been further developed during his time with Sperrin Metal and is vital for leading any Installation team.

Noel is responsible for the day-to-day planning and management of the Installation Crews in the North and South of Ireland as well as GB and mainland Europe.  His field of expertise includes all the Company’s products whether they are pallet racking, shelving, mezzanines or lockers and cubicles.
