Sperrin’s Products Installed at Titanic Quarters, Belfast

Northern Ireland's largest third level education institution, Belfast Metropolitan College, is opening its new Titanic Quarter campus in September 2011. The new campus, which will replace the Institute's current facilities, will provide education for up to 18,000 full-time and part-time students. Sperrin Metal was the chosen supplier by the Furniture Contractor Space Contract Interiors for the lockers and library shelving for this exciting new build project.

Titanic Quarter is one of Europe's largest and most exciting waterfront developments costing an estimated £7bn. It involves the transformation of a 185-acre site on the banks of Belfast's River Lagan into a new mixed use maritime quarter with a mile of water frontage and a range of investment opportunities including: over 7,500 apartments, 900,000 sq. m. of business, education, office and research and development floor space together with hotels, restaurants, cafes, bars and other leisure uses. The site is centred upon former shipbuilding land from which vessels such as the RMS Titanic, Olympic and SS Canberra were launched.

Sperrin Metal was the chosen supplier by the Furniture Contractor Space Contract Interiors for the lockers and library shelving for this exciting new build project.  Working in Collaboration with Space Contract Interiors, Sperrin’s design team proposed a library shelving layout that maximised storage potential and in keeping with the objective of creating a welcoming, light and comfortable learning and leisure space. Approximately 60 bays of shelving were supplied. 

For their locker requirements, Sperrin's superior heavy duty locker range was decided upon due to its durability and protection against vandalism.  68 3-door lockers were supplied providing 204 compartments.  Each locker was complete with bench seating. 

The project required Sperrin to liaise with the furniture contractor and the main contractor during the installation of both library shelving and lockers.

The project was a huge success and Sperrin were delighted to be involved in the Titanic Quarter development.
