Paintballing Event

On Friday 22nd September Sperrin Metal office staff participated in a fun filled team building afternoon of Paintballing at the Jungle Paint Ball, Desertmartin. The team was divided into two groups, suited and booted in combat gear in preparation for the messy adventure ahead. With the event lasting 3 hours "team building" was abandoned and revenge tactics sought! None the less it proved to be a very enjoyable afternoon for all participants.

Malawi Mission Success

After a successful missionary trip to Malawi, Area Sales Manager Jackie Smyth relates his experiences:

"The team arrived on Sunday 21st may after a tiresome journey that lasted some 31 hours. After settling in we were split into 3 designated groups. One team consisting of 4 members remained at the plateau on Livingstonia to help in the hospital while the remaining two teams set off for their destination. Nine went to Zunga via ambulance (a glorified taxi) followed by a nerve-racking boat journey that lasts some 90 minutes with the natives bailing the water out as you go. This team had the most difficult task in terms of renovating the health centre and working from 5.30am right through to 5.30pm each day to achieve the target that was set for them. The 3rd team went to Luwuchi to paint some houses belonging to the local health authority and also to repaint the health centre. This is where I went and I particularly enjoyed working with the local kids, who whilst they have nothing in material possessions, are incredibly happy. I presented them with the football shirts and we also had some small gifts like balloons, wristbands, sweets etc. The children even took great delight in receiving our empty plastic drinking bottles. We struggled at times to adjust to the culture but overall it was a tremendous experience that will live long in the memory"

The Team will be renovating the Health Post at Zunga, repainting the health centre at Luwuchi and helping to repair some staff housing. There will also be a number of medical people travelling with the team who will work in the Hospital at Livingstonia.

The memorabilia was presented by George's sister, Barbara McNarry to three members of the team, Jackie Smyth, Hugh Stewart and Tina Diamond. The team will take this clothing to the children of Malawi.

Sperrin wish Jackie and all the team, the best of luck during their mission.

Factory Fire

Sperrin Metal Products are pleased to announce that following a fire in the factory on Thursday 17th February things are returning to normal.

The company would like to thank all their customers for their understanding and patience for any disruption caused.

The fire started in the degreasing oven and quickly escalated throughout the paint plant. Thanks to operatives immediately putting into practice the fire evacuation plan, all employees evacuated the building without sustaining any injuries. This quick action from employees also prevented the fire from spreading throughout the factory. Most of the damage occurred in the paint plant with the rest of the factory suffering water damage along with substantial electrical damage.

Due to the combined efforts of management and the rest of the employees a restricted production program was resumed within one week. Within two weeks normal production, excluding the paint area was resumed. Painting is currently being carried out by subcontractors.

It is anticipated that normal painting will be resumed by the week commencing 4th April 2005.
