Sperrin Strikes Gold at Olympics Village

Sperrin have recently completed a project in the largest urban shopping centre in Europe.  Westfield Stratford City is located next to the Olympic Park and will provide the main access to the site for the Olympic Games in 2012.

Sperrin Metal were selected by retail giant Primark to install the racking and shelving for this landmark location. 

Due to the strict security confines implemented around the vibrant new Athletics Village, the project required Sperrin to draw on its wealth of expertise and experience in precision planning.  All deliveries had to be scheduled 48 hours in advance and all goods entering had to be clearly visible with no voids.  The project also required two inductions – one for the whole Athletics Village and the other for Primark’s 54,000 sq ft site.

The £1.45bn complex houses more than 300 stores, 70 restaurants, a 14-screen cinema, three hotels, a bowling alley and the UK's largest casino.  It is expected to create 10,000 retail jobs.  Mayor of London Boris Johnson said "It is one of the most important legacies of the 2012 Olympics.”

Westfield Stratford City shopping centre opened today and it was a stellar unveiling of what is the commercial jewel in the crown of the Olympic development.  Its launch befitted its status with ex-Pussycat Doll and US X Factor Judge Nicole Scherzinger taking to the stage.
